5 Surprising Ingredients for an Awesome Father’s Day
Disclaimer: You might not want your kiddos reading this (over your shoulder or otherwise). Just saying. *wink*
My husband is a superhero. He works hard throughout the week to provide for our family. He works hard at home fixing things around the house and making sure the kids and I know we are loved. While the kids and I are looking forward to honoring and pampering him, there are 5 things I can practically guarantee he wants that aren’t on my shopping list.
1) A LITTLE RESPECT
Sometimes I get so excited (because I LOVE celebrations) that I make plans without asking my husband what he wants to do. This can be tricky, especially if your husband is not necessarily vocal about what he wants to do. Some years, he may not want a big to-do. If that is the case, I have to slow myself down and respect his wishes. I try my best to co-ordinate with my mom, because my parents are local. However, I try to consider my husband’s desires first before making plans with everyone. Most years, we strike a compromise and do something of his choice, as well as a combined celebration with my father.
I know that a nap or sleeping in will top the list of things my husband wants to do on Father’s Day. He has a long commute during the week, and needs time to recharge on the weekends. So, I make sure to avoid jam-packing the day so he can catch some extra zzzs.
3) HIS FAVORITE MEAL
Technically the ingredients for his favorite meal could be on your shopping list, but I digress. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, right? A savory brunch or steak and seafood dinner is a given on Father’s Day. Sometimes we go out to eat, and sometimes we do it up at home. If you’re on a budget, you can whip up a steak dinner for cheap, and save the time you would have spent waiting for a table in restaurant. Which is also very convenient if you have little kids.
4) DO SOMETHING FUN TOGETHER
If your husband is anything like my husband, he will want to do something fun together as a family. If he is outdoorsy, plan a hike or fishing trip. If he’s a gamer, play a board or video game together. My husband loves movies, so we’re going to the movies together as a family this year.
5) PUT IT ON HIM
At the end of the day, after the kids are in bed… *cue mood music* Have fun showing him how much you appreciate him. This is the gift that keeps on giving. And after the amazing day you just planned, you deserve some good sleep, don’t you mama?
